Andre Thiemann is a Ph.D. candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, in Halle, Germany. Between 2009 and 2012, he was part of the Volkswagen funded project “Local State and Social Security in Hungary, Romania and Serbia”, and conducted 18 months of fieldwork in central Serbia. In his dissertation, he investigates the mutual coproduction of state and society. His research interests include the critique of political economy, the anthropology of the state, relational and spatial theory, social security, and care.
