Daniela Simon studied history, political science, and German studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen and earned her doctorate at Tübingen in 2015 with a thesis on religion and violence in Eastern Croatia and Northern Bosnia, 1941–1945. From 2015 to 2020, she was an academic associate in the Collaborative Research Center 923 “Threatened Orders” (board member 2018–2020). Since 2021, she has been a research associate at the Institute for Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies (IdGL), where she headed the archive until 2023. After her habilitation in 2022 she became the IdGL’s managing and deputy director. She teaches Southeast European history, focusing on Germans in the region in the context of war, flight, and loss of belonging.
